One of my favourite parts of Dragon Age and Dragon Age 2 is the approval and disapproval points! It would be great if we could incorporate this into the site somehow... I'm not exactly sure how, but does anyone else want to, or have any thoughts?

that sounds actually pretty interesting! I wonder if it could be possible to do this? I dunno we can see from the admin :3

I was thinking even if we had something that just listed each character, and you marked the approval ratings. Something not very technical...For example, I had a thread marked "Zevran" and I listed all the characters I've interacted with, and update it occasionally.

In the sense that it's like "I just fucked over like 80 people, Morrigan approves +20" is a little bit difficult to do, I'm not totally sure how to incorporate that into RP. That being said, if your character ICly likes another character, or is trying to gain another character's favour, they should exchange gifts and other things of the like.
Perhaps we could open a thread in the "Character Extras" board or maybe a sub-board and the threads could be between two people. An example thread title could be "Morrigan and Alistair" and within could be posts from either character stating "Morrigan disapproves - 30" "Alistair disapproves - 10". After each characters first post, it would be that players responsibility to do the math on that. You wouldn't be able to exceed 100 points of approval or disapproval. Or maybe 0 would be the neutral stance, and -100 would be absolute and pure hatred whereas +100 would be true love?
This is something that we can build on together.

Also, within the posts themselves you could include a short exerpt of what exactly it was that made your character approve or disapprove of that other character. And for the sake of not crowding the board, there would have to be only one thread per coupling, or perhaps just one thread per character, and each person could post within the thread of the character they were approving or disapproving of? I'm really just throwing out ideas to see what you guys think of them.

I like the idea of an 'extras' board with threads. It makes the most sense, to me, to have each character have just one thread and then keep a tally of character approval/disapproval rankings based on input from others who could post in the thread, as was said above, their change in [dis]approval ratings with a short summary and/or a link to the post/thread responsible for the change. And no weird things like how your party members in Origins always seemed to notice when something was going down, because that just seems like it would get really complicated to be reading a thread and reacting to something the character did when your character wasn't involved and wouldn't even know about it. For instance: 'Oh Alistair...I could never have any man but you!!!'= Zev -13, Leli -20, Wynne +5 Me: You people aren't there...how do you know this?! O.O *facepalm* S'what was said above already though, I think.

Maybe we could even set up a rule of when to subtract/add points...for example, after a thread has been finished, you update your approval rates; or if something major happened in the middle of the thread (major major) the approval would change. If we make it too complicated, it'll just become obsolete or too confusing for anyone to use...

You would have to adhere strictly to your approval rating of characters.

Yay approval and disapproval. Ance would be easy- if you're a Shem you automatically start at -50 If you're a mage you start with -30 (except for Morrigan...but she has mage AND shem bits) If you're a city elf you start with -20
In all seriousness we could each have an 'extra' thread for an individual character, as has been said many times, or just have it as an add-on to the character bio seeing as we already have a convenient link to that in every post (The character class link under the member name). And certain things could be mentioned in the post.
"Damn knife-ears!" *Anceladar disapproves -10*

So... is this going to be required? Just wondering. xD; I mean it's a cool idea but idk, usually people just roleplay and make their character's react approvingly or disapprovingly without having to spout a numerical value to make it obvious I guess. Just kinda seems like a little extra fun thing, not anything entirely necessary. Of course, I'll probably end up doing it if everyone else is, but I'm just looking at it from the other side of the spectrum I guess.

See that's what I thought. If it were to be done it would be odd to have certain characters not doing it, but I personally don't really like the idea that much, though I do understand the appeal of it. It doesn't seem organic to the RP itself, for example if I'm writing a roleplay with Ance with Eilir, I'm not going to stop mid-thread, or even after the thread and post "Ance kissed Eilir, Eilir approves +20 points" because I wouldn't do that IRL... there would be a storm of giggles and smiles, but no "I APPROVE +20~"
It would be really hard to regulate if there were people not doing it, IMO, but again, we can keep building on this idea seeing as there are people who are interested in something like that.
Maybe we could find a Karma system that would support such an idea.

Hmm, I'll take a look around some coding sites to see if there's any possibilities of a karma system like that existing and I'll let ya know.

Awesome, thank you. I was looking around the Proboards support and couldn't find anything short of adding money/karma points every time you make a post.

Yeah, I think a topic where each members character has a relationship table would work. People would reply with quotes of actions/words that gained approval or disapproval with their character with maybe a short reasoning. The owner of the topic would then update their table to reflect this.
Sounds like an awesome concept and it'd be fun to see it done.

Out of all the options that one seems like the most work and the most hectic with the most upkeep, unless there's a trick I'm missing.
